Is Radio With Navigation an option worth adding?

I am configuring an LT but I can't decide if I should add the Navigation option, it's a $490 upgrade that I am not sure if it's worth it. I have used a stand alone Garmin GPS all for many years and I am very familiar with Garmin's interface, especially most of Garmin come with lifetime map update. I assume Tahoe map update is not free.

Will I be able to use Apple Carplay or Android Auto if I don't add the Navigation option?

I have a 2016 with no nav. I just use carplay on my iphone and the maps pop up on the display screen. Really cool feature. :)

Having had a nav system in my sled for years, I'd offer that paying for routine updates required for factory/aftermarket nav systems gets old. I recently put in an AppRadio4, which allows me to run CarPlay through my phone via a USB port. I think all the head units in new Chevys come equipped to handle CarPlay, no? If that's the case for the truck you're buying, I'd get the biggest screen they have available without the nav feature and run Apple maps. If you're not familiar with Waze, I'd recommend checking that out at your first opportunity. I've never used a smarter and more accurate GPS platform. You can run Waze in the background on your phone while it's plugged into CarPlay, and Waze will give you real-time updates through the truck's speakers.
Good luck.

On the other hand, $490 will make little difference in the car payment. People like navigation systems....and that might pay off a little bit when/if you decide to sell it down the road.

Agreed! But IMO google map navigation routes is far superior to OEM nav. But when there is no cell towers then OEM is by far way better!! (LOL). OEM nav help me out on the eastern Sierra where there was no cell signal.
I have 2015i and hope android car will be available. I read that GMC will offer an upgrade firmware on 2016s Yukons in March for android auto upgrade. I hope it will be available for 2015i.

I'm anti-iPhone :) , all the other 3 of my family members gave gone to iPhone except me. I'm an Android guy, lol.
HERE is available in Android as well, I have tested a few time and its definitely a keeper, it'll come in handy in places where there is no cell coverage.
Thank you guys for all the feedback, it sounds like I don't need Navi to use Carplay/Android Auto, This is a good news because map gets outdated fast, and I don't want spending extra money upgrading it.
