Is there a difference in steering boxes between 95 & 98?

My 95 Tahoe seems to have tight steering as opposed to my sons 98 k1500. I can turn that truck with my pinky.. I like that better than my tight steering. What do I need to change to get that?

Ok so you want a loose steering wheel? There is a Adjuster screw on the steering box however I don't recommend touching it because it tends to make the box where out quicker. However in that case it would give you what you want. As for any differences in the steering boxes themselves I don't recall , I doubt there is any.

There is a sensor that the later models have that the 95s don't.

If operating properly your 1998 steering should be a bit tighter as speed increases and be easier to turn when slowed down a lot or stopped. There is a system called the Electronic Variable Orifice(EVO) system.

I guess I don't mean loose...his truck is just so much easier to turn than mine, or for that matter my friends 95 pickup...Perhaps loose was the wrong term...

If your system malfunctions it can make it more difficult for you turn turn. A shop with the proper scanner can scan your evo system to see if there are issues with it but there is no warning light to say it needs to be checked. The codes would start with the letter C. But you could also be paying, up front, money that might give you no diagnostics codes if none are available. Really about the only to things that fail are the steering sensor inside the cab and the solenoid on the pump. If your steering effort tho appears to be the same no matter what speed. Your solenoid on the pump might just be stuck. The control module has no way of knowing if it is stuck too. Just whether or not it is connected or shorted out.
