Hi, im new here i just purchased a 99 Chevrolet Tahoe LS, with 137K 4x4 nearly rust free, for $3600 . I have always wanted one and finally went about purchasing myself a new toy. I like working on my own vehicles so, my question would be is there anything i can do to improve mpg other than staying away from WOT. I dont want to get to extreme with modifications just yet but i was thinking a CAI, and some light exhaust work possibly?Just about anything that wont break the bank but would give me both a decent increase in power/butt dyno as well as some improved mpg.
I am also going to do a tune up soon (plugs, wires) and so forth, and was wondering if there was anything i should go with and what i should avoid.

This is going to eventually be more of a family based vehicle for my fiance and I so i want to start off slow and go from there.

Other than that is there anything i should be aware of about these trucks? Maybe common problems and so forth..

Thanks for the info and im looking forward to being a Tahoe owner as well as a valued member.

Would suggest a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit first. Instant butt dyno improvement. Cool induction sound as well and you can get them usually for less the $250 at amazon instead of $350 or more at other places. Ignition: use all acdelco for now cheap at amazon or rock auto. As far as known anomalies maybe lets take it a one step at a time so you don't rush thru things. How about just talking about what you feel. From the vehicle that is:)
Work upstream from your intake system to downstream towards your exhaust for your engine mods.

The first thing I did was 'seafoam' because I figured with it being an older couples vehicle it probably didn't see much WOT. As for pictures how would I upload them on here?

Thanks for the upgrade ideas the kit you stated would be better than maybe an 'older airaid'? Also what about a tb spacer, do they even work? Other than that ill buy my cai tonight since im not awaiting the arrival of my hid kit/clear lens.

Tb spacer are not really effective when your injectors are down stream of the spacer. It would be a close fit with the kn unit as is. Air raids can be good to but look for dyno sheets and consider space requirements for future stuff. My ducting was much taller but a gain some serious space along the battery. For pictures use the "Go Advanced" button below quick reply box, click on the paper click icon, browse you puter for the pic, click open, then upload, will tell you when it is done, close window. And finally submit your message. It will let you do one at a time up to 5 for each post. My kn is below.

better throttle response and more power and a meaner incduction noise. Got it for $232 actually at amazon. Installation less then 1.5 hours. When combined with other options like headers, high flow cat system, a good cat-back system, efans and let say tuned afterwards with a scan logging Black bear tune your world will be rocked. this dyno sheet was for a 5.0l and we have 5.7l so you may actually get a little bit more. I am more then satisfied with it just need money to do the other stuff. Already planned out. Think it's going to be $2200 to finish the rest of the above.

Don't use a smartphone so I don't know how it will turn out. Somebody here might know.

Thanks, so would a K&N drop in even be worth buying or should i save for a CAI ? Also i really do want to know what i should be looking out for with our trucks, so i can plan according to things " going bad " or maybe even prevent a few things.

As well as i would like to know if there is any tips or tricks i should know about , maybe things we can do that cost little to no money to improve the truck in some way.

Other than that any other mods that anyone would suggest, and if i did exhaust i dont want it much louder than stock, suggestions?
