My name is Nolan, and I'm new to the forum, but I had a couple questions for the experts here...

I just bought a 2003 Yukon SLT today, and on the way home I discovered a few problems with it.

1. Cruise Control doesn't work. The indicator light in the dash doesn't come on, nor does it seem to function at all

2. Brake lights intermittently do not work. If you press the brake pedal several times the lights work about every third pump. My hunch is that this is the underlying cause of the Cruise Control problem. Brake light switch?

3. Driver side heated seat only works for a few seconds before turning off. If the passenger side heater is on it will turn off as well when the driver's side is engaged.

4. Strange buzzing noise in the back seat. It appears that this is coming from the little tweeter-looking thing above the middle seats. I'm not sure if this is a speaker or a vent of some kind. It's between the rear AC vents. It sounds almost like a running electric seat motor, but it's coming from that little round grill, be it a speaker or whatever.

I'm pretty frustrated at this point, because this is the first "newer" vehicle I've ever purchased, and for the price I paid I expect everything to work. My Dad has an identical one, and it's flawless. I tried to check everything during the test drive, but it's tough to try everything in a 3 minute cruise.

Should I call the dealer tomorrow and suggest they fix all these problems? What are my options? I purchased it from a Chevrolet dealer.

I'd rather not have to work on this new rig, especially considering every vehicle I've ever owned has been something I had to work on myself frequently.

The heated seat is a known problem as mine does this as well, you just have a bad heat element in your driver seat either the upper one or the lower one is the problem but could be both. And as far as the buzz from the tweeter looking vent, those are actually sensors for your auto air system and sometimes dust gets in them and makes the noise so try blow some air in them and see if that helps you out. So seems like the only serious problem you have out of that list is the brake lights and the cruise control goodluck

And yes I would call them and see if they could fix some if not all of the problems, in which im sure they gave you some type of warranty but it may only be for the powertrain.

Only owning it for that short of time you have every right to return the vehicle and/or demand that they address the issues at hand or you will return it, the balls in your court just don't wait to long cause then you are stuck with these issues. Good luck!

I know this may sound dumb. But is your cruise control set to on? I think it has to be flipped in the middle for it to work. If its set to the left side it wont work.

Are the taillights stock or aftermarket LED's? Some people have the problems you described after installing LED tails.

Id be damned surprised if you had any warranty on a 7 year old almost 8 year old truck... sounds more like an as-is sale. Being a SAFETY issue however, you may be able to get some traction if you are FIRM but polite about them selling you a vehicle with defective brake lights. You may have to settle for Free diagnostic and repair labor and you buy the part, but that is better than a kick in the pants.

1 and 2: yes sounds like a faulty brake switch, or a bad connection there.

4: the climate control sensor does have a fan.

here was the thread, I hope it is helpful.

Thanks for the welcome and advice, everyone! I appreciate the kind words.

The brake lights and Cruise seem to have fixed themselves.

Since the vehicle has 99,000 miles, I purchased the extended warranty through GMAC. It's 36,000/3yrs, and covers all powertrain and most of the electronics. I hate these sort of add-on things usually, but for as much money as I'm in to this thing I'd like some peace of mind.

I've pretty much decided to live with the seat heat problem. I don't really use them anyway, at least when I'm in other people's vehicles.

I had the front end aligned today, and I'm probably going to spring for a new set of tires in a week or two. The right front one is pretty bald on the inside, due to the bad alignment. I'll go with BFG All Terrains, as I've always used these on my Jeep and every other 4X4 I've owned.

The previous owners must have used drive through car washes, because the paint has about a million little scratches. A buffer or even a rag with some compound will take these out, but it's hardly noticeable. I will probably do this next weekend, and throw a coat of wax on it.

Other than these minor things, this rig is super nice. The carpet is in good shape, the seats aren't worn, and the engine runs great.

The color is a sort of charcoal grey metallic.....

A couple pics. The gold one in front is my Dad's nearly identical '03 SLT...
