Good Luck! I tried everything under the sun to get my other side replaced. I even sent a 4 page letter (conversation log included) to the Executive Support team in Michigan (addressed directly to the GM's North American President - forget the name).

As expected, they did nothing!
That's how warranty work is. They can only replace what's broken. Can't replace things just because.

Known issue with plenty of precedence out there. From my perspective it's not a matter of "if" but "when".

You could say the same for a lot of things. Doesn't matter. Has to be broke to get fixed under warranty...period.

Thank you

Shrubs2K2 and DuraYuk.

The car is still at the shop — 2 weeks now. Good news is that GMC will replace all lifters and the camshaft without cost to me. I was offered to replace the spark plugs while everything is apart to save the labor cost and agreed.

I am attaching another photo of the passive(!!) lifter that is wrecked — it was not the passive active lifter on 3 that failed...

Thank you again for your comments!

Ii have a 2021 GMC Yukon SLT with the 5.3 and 10 speed auto. I heard if you put transmission in L9 it stays in V-8 mode.

Any time I'm cruising around town I do that too. I don't like feeling those four cylinders lugging when lightly accelerating. I've read that that puts those cylinders at near 100% load. Loading up the engine like that should be for eyeball flattening fun I think.

Note, in @mnemonicmark’s case he said the passive lifter failed…so in his case, DFM delete would have done nothing…

Wow! That looks like spalling caused by poor lubrication, to my eye. Did they offer any hypothesis as to why it failed?

You can L9 all you want (as do I to eliminate DFM vibration) but the problematic parts are what they are. L9 won’t solve that.
