SW CT,
This is the exact reason why I pay a little bit more for "OEM" replacement coverage.

I have state farm up here in Canada and i love them as well. Ive had a house claim for a flood and a couple of accident claims over 15 years and they are the best.
One of their motto's is Insurance like it never happened, and they live it, they give you options and fix your shit the way you ask for it, with in reason of course.

When our house flooded they gave us three options; one, we'll pay you 75% of the repair cost and you can go on a holiday, two, we fix it with our contractors to the way it was like it never happened and you pay nothing, Three, they'll pay you 75% and you fix it how you want and when it's complete they give you the other 25%.

I dont think i pay any more than anyone else either but i would.

It sucks to have a hit and run man, i hope you find them.

That sucks David. Hit and runs happen all the time out here in Lubbock too...damn people with no insurance! Almost had a similar experience this weekend...left "the bar" after an evening with some friends and some F-150 ******* had parallel parked in front of me and his bumper and hitch were pressing into my front bumper and valance insert. Luckily the valance has some "float" or he would have dented it. Resolution: I took a whiz on his tire and left him a post-it-note letting him know my thoughts on the matter. No conseideration from some people.

just to clear things up a reconditioned part is a oem piece it has just been repaired by a company like keystone. it is in no way aftermarket. once the recon part is painted and installed youll never notice the difference . if your worried about fitment issues or the bumper actually looking like it was repaired then you need a new body shop. trust me

You have a little (key word "little") leverage through the body shop. They don't get paid until you accept the work. If you tell them ahead of time you probably won't be happy with anything less than OEM the will have an incentive.

This isn't a guaranteed solution. They can argue with the insurance company, get an adjuster to look at the repairs, and get a ruling, but that takes time and effort.
