2006 Z71 here. I've started to get a knocking sound from what sounds like the front drivers side during a slight turn to the right. You can't feel it in the steering wheel but you can on at the pedal and you can hear it. However it only seems to be when its cold. Once it warms up or you have been driving for a while it goes away. I've checked the front drivers wheel hub and its tight..no play. I've looked at the rest of the suspension parts and they look fine, even changed the sway bar links just in case. The I-shaft is tight also with no play. I also changed the brakes but this was happening before then. suggestions? oh and new shocks so those are good and tight.

I have had hub bearings go bad and they were as tight as when they were new. If your truck is two wheel drive you can pull the brake caliper off and spin the hub and you`ll be able to tell if its bad because it will be slightly harder to turn and won`t turn very smoothly. It`s a little harder to tell with that method if you have four wheel drive because you`ll be spinning the axle as well but not impossible. I have 4wd and was able to diagnose a bad hub that way.

Thanks, I might just change it just for piece of mind. I'm about to make a 2000 mile trip and don't want any issues.

i lifted it up again last night and the hub is tight as can be, zero play at the wheel. however I do have play at the pitman and idler arms. can that cause my knocking sound that im hearing? remember...it only does it with a slight turn of the steering wheel to the right. And i cannot feel anything in the steering wheel.

truck on the ground, have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the joints, looking to see them not moving together, you might even hear the knock when the wheel is rocked if they are real bad.

I had an '08 Chevy pickup and it had a similar noise. Put it in the shop and it was the same when they gave it back. I crawled under it and found one of the front shocks rubber insert at the top mount was gone and it was rattling around. Wrote the owner of the dealership but never got a response

think i fixed it.....looks like my shocks wernt long enough and were extending out fully and hitting internally. I lowered the front about 3/4 in and so far no noise....along with changing hub fixed all my issues it looks like.
