Hey gang..

Hoping someone can help identify the part I'd need. Helping a friend w/ her 2007 Chevy Tahoe which has become a pet project for me. She said that she's getting water in the cabin trunk area after a heavy rain or a car wash. Sure enough, she's right. So I searched online and found it to be a common problem and folks were nice enough to post pics. I've attached a picture of where I cleaned and what they originally said was the issue. On the top of the gate, there is a gasket which was loose and had some rot. I siliconed it and made it nice and figured that was it. Rain came, and the water came in again.

Took the brake light off and the housing just above it (sorry for the pic, I'm referring to the driver's side, but only had a passenger side pic of a newer Tahoe.. just showing it for illustration purposes).

Where the red arrow is (underneath that plastic piece) is a type of vent or something. Guessing it's used for pressurizing the cabin container. There's one on either side. The one on the driver's side seems to have some flaps missing on it (passenger has some missing too but not same ones) so I don't know if it's by design or if the flaps are missing which is then causing water to enter the passenger compartment at the rear.

Anyone have any idea what the part numbers are for the pieces that go underneath the plastic body housing on either side? Can't seem to locate what they are called or part numbers. I tried siliconing around them, but obviously water is still getting in and I have a feeling it's just through the opening in this piece.

The other area that I highlighted was the top of the Tahoe, where I also added silicone, but despite the gasket being loose, it didn't stop the water from coming in.

Thanks in advance! I apologize if my wording isn't correct -- Just trying to help a friend out and not a mechanic, so my language may be off a bit ....

maybe my issue will help you out some, link to my thread about this same type of leak you may be speaking of http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/check-out-this-nastiness.80180/

Ultimately I ended up throwing some weather caulking around the wire loom insert that connects between the body of the truck and the hatch. I used a pretty descent amount, I did not want this thing leaking again and I can replace it once I get back to Texas where the rainy season isn't 10 months out of the year. I had water dripping from my rear passenger panel in the cargo area. Good luck.

Hey man, thanks. This one has me stumped. I think it's coming from the vents (any idea what their official name is through the dealer? I want to grab a replacement and see if that does it) behind the plastic body cover as I tried using silicone around wiring harness already and that didn't do the trick. (that's in the pic I included.. wanted to make sure I referenced the right part..). I was certain it'd be the wiring harness as I took the upholstery header off and saw the grime that had built up, in addition to the amount of separation the harness had with the metal body, so I figured it had to be there. Saw so many other people say that was their issue that I was hoping this would be her issue. Not so much. I know finding the water is one of the hardest things to do. I can't imagine I missed that wiring harness in total that it wouldn't have stopped it somewhat if that were the case so I'm leaning towards that plastic vent that is there. Just don't know what it's called.

Still open to suggestions! What a pain... LOL.. thx!

if you think it is the seal around those vents then I would spray some sealer around the edges of it, the flaps should not let any water in. when I pulled of those caps on the outside and cleaned the vents they were so gunked up with dirt and grim that they didn't even move. Maybe try that spray sealer though.

I also forgot to mentions that I was able to fix the front leak with the spray sealer on the floor board and then also replaced my foam door seal. You could also be looking at replacing the seal in the rear never know but a good place to check bad part to have to replace only due to how expensive they are for these years models.

Thanks.. Yeah those flaps are missing. The plastic piece is there, but it seems like the flaps aren't there on most of the part. One of the flap pieces feel off just as I was getting to it -- so I'm thinking it's definitely going. She has 200K miles on it, and being that it's a V8 and she doesn't need something so big, I'm trying to get her to trade it in for something smaller. It's running solid -- but can't figure out the leak.

I may get some spray sealer as well, but I think that the flaps (whatever that piece is called) is definitely the culprit.

Any idea what that piece is called? Friend said dealer has a book with pictures of all the parts and their numbers but didn't know what they were called.

Was trying to see if there was an online reference but no clue what it's even called to begin to look for it.

Thx!

Its Called a "vent valve" or Pressure Vent, Pressure Valve in the Silverado/Sierra GM part 13596856 <-silverado part#

If you pull the cover back there, it might be stamped with the part number.
