LED headlight retrofit?

Yup, JW Speaker is one of the best companies out there making led modules. There are two reasons a lot of folks aren't retrofitting them. One, they are expensive. Two, the light output is basically that of halogen in term of brightness but with a white beam. These are actually made as a straight swap for vehicles with 90mm halogen modules as a energy saving measure, they are the standard light most buses and a lot of commercial vehicles use. It makes little energy consumption difference on an individual's vehicle but a big difference with fleets.

But again, uber expensive, and having seen them in person, they put out basically a white version of a halogen beam.

Ive actually thought about doing this as well. But have much research to do. Already have quad mini h1s.

serge, what do you think about the leds of say, the audi led lights, or the platinum esky lights? Those are leds correct? Or the new acuras. I would love to somehow retro those styles into the lights.

Is there any advantage over projectors? I.E. my mini h1 projectors.

Well the Acura and escalade LEDs are setup as multiple small modules, as opposed to say the BMW or MB leds which are single low beam and single high beam modules. But they are not removable and they are incredibly housing specific ... meaning you can't just yank them out and put them in something else, not that you'd want to considering how expensive their housings are.

I had the OEM led headlamps on my Esky and took them off for reasons not related to output. They were great but they were a white version of a halogen beam. What most folks don't really know is that the halogen pattern is actually much better (at least in the opinion of automotive optical lighting engineers) than an HID pattern, it's just not white.

The fact that HID projectors put out so much light necessitates a sharp cutoff so as not to blind oncoming traffic but it's ******* the pupils which can't adjust to both the strong light below the cutoff and the darkness above it, especial when there's no ambient light around from street lights and the like. Whereas a halogen pattern, because it is less intense, is allowed much more 'bleed' above the cutoff thus the transition between the hotspot and the darkness is gradual and easy on the eyes. That's why led headlights are now preferred by automakers, because they encompass what they believe is the best attributes of both halogen and HID lights while discarding the negatives.

Thank you for the insightful read. I do not know much about the new led lighting that has been coming out. (probably old technology, just haven't paid attention)

Sounds like doing a led retro may not be to beneficial to me. Did not know that BMW and MB had led lights as well. I guess b/c they are not as prominent as the esky and acuras. All though I really do like the look of the new acuras lights. A row of the mini modules in a tahoe light would look very cool and unique to me.

Be interesting to see if someone does do a retro of the led lights you linked to above.

However those are JW Speaker Bi-Led modules which are easier to retro, and they're also a straight swap (no retro) for Wrangler size halogen housings.

Having seen the Hella ones in person I doubt that many people would retrofit them. They are more heatsink metal than module, that is to say they are huge and very heavy, only really practical as a straight replacement for a 90mm sealed beam halogen housing.

That look of that F150 makes me think this would work well in the Yukon lights. Someone prove me right!

Ballpark price estimate for parts? What does an expert hand charge to aim and attach?
