Bow Ties Are Cool
TL : DR I am extremely happy with the Supernova V.3 LED headlight bulbs in my stock 02 Tahoe housings. Definitely worth checking out. If you're just a little curious this comparison video is phenominal and what sold me on giving them a shot. The V.3s are reviews at the 9:00 minute mark.
I've tried LED's before and I sent them back immediately because the light output (So little focussed output) was downright dangerous. I live in the PNW and start work at 0430, so my commute is always in the dark and frequently in the rain, not the time for crappy headlights. So I was a little hesitant to give LEDs another shot, but I had seen a few people on here talk about Headlight Revolution, and about the Supernova V.3's as being pretty good. I called and spoke with HR's customer service, basically interrogated them about their lights for like a half hour, and they happily answered all of my questions and assured me of their return policy if I wasn't 100% happy with them.
When I got the bulbs the construction seemed really solid, they have a driver box on the cord, but its a smaller one than what I've seen for HID setups, so there was no problem just tucking it in behind the housing with the wires. The Supernova V.3's have the braided heat sinks coming off the back which did make it a little tricky to install, but I mean barely. Like instead of a 5 minute job, it was a 10 minute job because I had to work them around between the back of the housing and the bracket. Not too bad at all though.
**I was also really concerned that these would throw some crazy glare being in stock reflector housings. Since in stalling them, I have run multiple tests with my dad and a few friends (Following and driving past) and none of them were bothered of even noticed an increase in glare with these bulbs.**
As we head into the rainy season (it's always the rainy season in Seattle) but the stormy rainy season, these bulbs have been fantastic. I was pretty happy with how they perform in ideal night situations (See pics below) but the difference they make in stormy conditions were really impressive. I've always been bothered by what seemed like poor performance from halogens in stormy or rainy night situations. With all of the reflection of street lights and poor visability, I felt like my halogens were always kind of washed out and I never could see as well as I'd like. Not the case with the Supernova's. These give me unwaivering performance regardless of the conditions.
I highly recommend these bulbs. If anybody has questions about them just ask, I'm happy to give any info on them that I can.
Here are some photos.
Here is a still with my halogen bulbs (Disreguard the amount of light right in front of the truck on the ground, I forgot I had my fogs on when I took this... but you can see the throw of the halogens.)View media item 26674
