Hi all,
the previous owner of my 03 Yukon bought a cowl hood for it. It's not steel, some kind of lighter material. It doesn't matter what it is but how to install it.
He tried to put it on the truck but the hood would not close. The opening mechanism for the hood was holding it open and the hood had not enough weight and rigity to be pulled down to shut.
What do you guys with cowl hoods do? How did you install yours?

that's probably right.
anyway, how would you go about installing it?
Can you release some tension in the original spring and use it on the lighter hood
or
put some struts instead of the spring?

I like the struts idea and they used to make low tension springs/hinges for the older chevy's (obs' maybe?)

Most of the time the fiberglass hoods will need to be modified to fit perfectly even then it will almost never be perfect. You will most likely have to adjust the mounting holes and/or the latch. Most people do away with latches and add hood pins, you can get some low profile hood pins if you don't like the look of them and there are other out there that are not as bad either. You should be able to adjust the latch though to make It seat all the way down.

pictures would be good to see what you are working with

here is a low profile that I would get if I had to do hood pins. looks way better that those cheap dingle berries most people do from autozone
