So today I put in a HID kit on my Hoe, came out good except one light doesn't want to come on when I first start the truck, I have to turn on the lights, then turn em back off for it to come on, guess its a bad ballast? guess ill take it to the shop I bought em from and see what they'll do to rectify the situation, or if anyone has any input...
Had another question, i was wanting to replace my stop and turn signal lights with LEDs, mainly to alleviate the issue i have with the volt meter dipping everytime the turn signals blink, but i was thinking, is the drop in voltage from using the old style light bulbs, the relays being old, wiring, or something else?? reason i ask is because i don't want get LED bulbs and hoping they are going to help if they aren't going to help the issue, i don't mind spending the money on the bulbs, just don't want to get pissed off and throw something lol:emotions122:

The HID issue you are having is called a misfire. The igniter isn't lighting the bulb most likely you'll need a new ballast or try checking your connections.

Also your other issue is likely bigger than needing LEDs because the truck doesn't come with LEDs so you aren't drawing too much current.

the the voltmeter and turn signal thing is a known issue with these trucks. It's not an issue with the lights though. I don't remember the fix though, I seem to recall something about a grounding lug near the OBD2 port that grounds part of the dash and can cause some weird problems.

The voltmeters themselves aren't know for being that accurate anyway....

As for the HIDs, nothing you can do but check the connections and try to return it if you still can. Those cheap hid kits are hit and miss on quality.

unknown at this time.
i have done the full illumination in/out conversion and i would reccomend that you use a led compatible flasher. pro: you cat cut off all the resistors ballast and become more energy efficient in light power usage. con:you will lose the bulb out quick flash effect. but hey you have leds and they last longer and are more reliable. and you inspect your lighting system among other things on the suv every week anyways. right?

Im gonna take it back to the shop I got them at today, and have them replace the ballast...
ok thanks Dylan ill search the forums here for that!
Mr. Sunlit, im not a wiring genius nor do I even know what resistor ballasts are :hmm:
I haven't switched over to LED's yet, im still researching everything before I pull the trigger, im in no rush, but I do want it done

well I took it back to the shop where I bought the kit, silly me forgot to get the harness for the DRL's, just installed it and boom!! it works without a hitch!! Now to figure out the pesky voltage drop when using the turn signals...

drl harness? we are talking obs/gmt400 platform right? what drl harness?

Ok so my terms might not be correct, but yea theres a wiring harness that has a relay and wires to one of the headlight connections, it has a fuse and connects direct to the battery, basically it gives the ballasts the full amount of power it needs to ignite the bulb... It made sense the way the tech explained it, it only cost me $20 bucks and it worked like I wanted it to so who was I to question...

May i ask why I cannot use the high light until the lights switched to full?

I want to do the HID convert but my low headlights goes OFF when I turn the highlights ON!!!!

Why it is doing all of this? What is the point?
