Link Error with OBD Tool

Hey folks, I finally got tired of seeing my check engine light on so I sprung for a cheap scan tool off amazon. My scanner is getting power from my obd port but it's coming up with link error every time. I hooked it up to my Tacoma and it worked fine.

I have a black bear tune and aftermarket radio. Could these be causing this issue? Any tips on getting it to link up properly? Thanks!

Have you double checked to make sure it's compatible with gm vehicles that date back to yours?

Your tune and radio would have no effect with linking to your pcm.

I can't find a complete compatibility guide, but one review on amazon talks about using it on a 2005 suburban so I assume it should work on my 2005 Tahoe.

It's an Oxgord MS300. It says it should be compatible with most vehicles made after 96.

Disconnect the splice pack sp205 (#3)and check the terminals for any corrosion and make sure it has a good tight connection.

I'll try that this afternoon after work. I also have some contact cleaner that I'll spray up in there.

Check your fuse to the cigarette lighter. As strange as it sounds I ran into the exact same problem when I went to get my 2000 Tahoe inspected. My truck failed because the inspector could not communicate with the OBD II port. When I got home, I plugged my scanner into the port and got a link error as well, which was strange because I have been using my scanner to check everything before the inspection. after searching I noticed that my cigarette lighter was not working. Sure enough the fuse has blown. I replaced the fuse and for the heck of it decided to plug my scanner back and just like that connection was established.

Not saying it's a bona-fide cure but hey who knows...

try pulling the radio fuse.

i know on these trucks when you install an aftermarket headunit, some of the modules used to retain chimes and what not still talk over the serial data line. When i tune one with HPtuners i have to pull the radio fuse or it will not talk at all.

however my cheapy blue tooth scanner works just fine.

simple and easy to check.
