So I grenaded a hub on Christmas day and by grenaded I mean parts on the road...after getting the Denali in a safe place and grabbing my other ride I decided to stop and look for the shrapnel and found a few peices. One piece was from the main body of the bearing and clearly said Timken. I always wondered who OEM'd the GM hub's and that doesn't leave me with the warm and fuzzies. I think the piece got tossed in the trash but I will pull the rest apart when the new hubs get here and snap some pics. I hesitantly ordered the Timken replacements and plan to take them apart and see how much grease they come with and I have a suspicion there won't be very much. Not sure if you guys already knew this info I have been curious for a while now. The replacements I ordered were Timken SP500301 hopefully there has been some improvements since I only got 80k out of the OEM's

Yes, Timken are OE and the 301s are the latest part number, newer than what ours were originally built with. Yours is the first I've heard of in a long long time. Was there any warning? My other one is making noise but I just keep turning the radio louder until I get around to it. I do check the hub temp and it's only 10 degrees warmer.

I replaced the drivers hub/bearing assembly last March on my 2001 with a Moog one. Last month it started making a growling noise that speeds up/slows down with the speed of the vehicle. When I had the car up a couple weeks ago doing oil change and rotating tires the drivers front tire didn't spin as freely as the passenger side. The Moog has a 1 year warranty so it won't cost anything to replace it, but it just sucks that I have to go through changing it out again before the end of March.

It started growling heading over to our family for Christmas I was able to get almost home (probably about 200 miles after growling started) before it let go. Glad I was doing around 10 mph when she said enough is enough.
