I know that this has been discussed a lot, but couldn't find the answer to my question.

My driver door actuator went out. :okay2:

Are the lock actuators on each side (driver/pass.) the same for front and rear?
Can i switch the rear into the front for the time being until I order a new one??

I needed one for an '07+. Thanks for the reply though.
I just bought one and installed it yesterday. Unfortunately it ran me $123!

I also answered my own question when I looked and realized that the rear actuator will have a child lock on it, so I would not be able to swap them rear to front.

My 08 Suburban with 27k miles, I bout a week ago had both pass side actuators go out the day we left the lot.

Thankful for a good dealership, not even a Chevy place, who took care of both at no cost.

Thankful for a good dealership, not even a Chevy place, who took care of both at no cost.

Mine went out in the rear drivers side door in my 08 avalanche at 14k miles and it took the dealer three weeks to get all of the doors working again after they thought they "fixed" it. From then on sometimes one of the front doors didn't unlock when put in park. The dealer was skeptic but I just replaced all 4 myself after that...

2009 GMC Yukon Door Lock Actuator disassembly

I recently bought a 2009 GMC Yukon XT 2500 SLT and it came with a failed front passenger door lock actuator. I pulled it out this weekend and took it apart, turns out a cheap $.30 Chinese motor in it failed. I won't go in to removing the actuator, plenty of threads and videos on that already, but this is how I took it apart and put it back together:

A.) Drill out the peened over ends of the two assembly rods on the side away from the lock with a pilot centering bit

B.) Remove the top cover but note the lever positions first

C.) These are the contacts that go in to the motor

D.) This is the $.30 P.O.S. motor that has failed, if someone could source the motor it would be a cheap fix instead of paying >$140!

E.) Pry the tabs off with small diagonal pliers then take the motor apart and you can see the failure. It looks like the excess of grease in the actuator got in to the motor and caused it to fail

F.) I drilled and tapped the rods for #6-32 then reassembled with 3/8" pan heads with flat washers. It's back in the car until a replacement actuator comes in

This is a huge issue on the NBS trucks and other GM products since 2007, read this Edmunds thread :

You would be foolish to buy more GM actuators and put them in, or worse, pay your dealer $300 per door. They will just break again, total rubbish. GM needs to issue a recall !!! I had all 4 go out in mine. Then 2 more after they replaced under warranty, now they wont touch it. Read the almost 1,000 angry posts in that Edmunds thread. They are just hoping the internet gets unplugged at this point.

yeah i know, he is working with all the GM dealers in atlanta to build up some cores. you should send in your units, it only takes a week. you dont have another option if you want working locks. it is so much of a pain to try to reach all the way back to rear doors to unlock them.

he said he should have cores in stock soon, the GM dealers are using his repaired actuators now since they have had so many angry customers.
