I don't think it would be a bad thing either on the Mercedes but dumping what's in a catch can back into the motor due to catch cans sweat and have condensation making water a big no no.

Why would you want to return that off-white stuff in this pic to the crankcase?The chemical difference between crankcase motor oil and what's in the catch can
is the reason why catch cans exist.
Otherwise, why not just pour what's in the catch can back into the crankcase?

I can't see a reason why it would necessarily be a bad thing to return the oil to the crankcase
(assuming all the lines were cleaned / flushed after assembly of course).
