Howdy!
Well its time for a truck. Bought a house, going to the mountains and wanting to tow are leaving me needing to get out of an SUV. I currently have a 80 series land cruiser that i have absolutely adored.
Pros:
Reliable as hell
Does NOT break…EVER
Goes anywhere i tell it to, even in colorado mtns. It is the Recovery vehicle!
parts are readily available now, but not compared to gm but how compared to Cadillac?
Cons:
sloooooow
Bad gas mileage, you would think if it was slow it would be decent but no, avg 10mpg
doesn't tow well, not enough power
dated comfort and interior
So this leads me to where i am now. Having had the Cruiser for 6 or 7 years i can't leave the reliability aspect behind. We do take trips quite often into no mans land with no cell service for miles.
Years being looked at are 2002-2006…and budget of around $15k
Service and maintenance is not a problem, i can do it all myself. I love the LS motors, hell i have one already but its in my m3. Only don't want to be stuck often in the middle of nowhere.
Lift:
If i do get an Escalade the first things to do are get rid of the blingy wheels and put something that will stand the abuse of our mountains like Duratracs. What are the smallest diameter wheels that will clear the brakes? And largest tires without cutting?
Can i easily add a little lift, nothing crazy or does the truck have an expensive, complicated system?
Same questions for he Avalanche.
Engine:
6.0 LQ9 or 5.3?
Did all escalades come with the 6.0?
I'de love the extra power but is it a deal breaker against the avalanche?
I plan on occasionally towing anything from ATV's to race car on flat bed trailer...
4x4 system:
Same or different?
That's allí got off the top of my head right now, anything i should look out for please let me know. If i am going to regret selling my cruiser lmk or should i sell it and never look back.
