I have put some cash aside to purchase a 2001-2006 Tahoe or Yukon. Are there some years that are more desirable than others?Especially mechanically? If I purchase a 2001 model.would I be missing out on something that a 2002 would have?

00-02 are different than 03-06 with the interior and electrical systems. If it were me, I'd look at 03-06

I have had both and the new body style and perfer the 01-02 over the 03-06. But make sure it has Hydro boost braking that's the only real issues with the 01 & 02 year models that and the radio is a Din & a half , the mirrors don't power fold and no steering wheel controls.

You can get the dash bezel to make it a double din for real cheap or trim yours. The power fold mirrors can be added, I am seeing about swapping to the newer Steering wheel and using the new wire harness.

The buttons and swiths in the 03 and up the wear out and IMO that's when GM started to have so issues with Finances.

Now depending on what you want it for the Yukons can come with a 6.0L which is a night and day difference power and performance wise.

I looked at a 2003,the seats and interior was pretty good, but first thing I noticed were a lot of worn-out buttons on the dash, that really looked like junk. And there were so many options and accessories, like the automatic seat adjustment thing, that just looks like another thing to be a nightmare when it goes bad.I am sure that I can live without the power fold and a whole lot of other stuff.

Thanks for that about the hydroboost. What do the others have...vacuum brakes?

I want the 5.3 engine, the 6.0 would just burn more gas for me.

I may end up with 2003-2006,but if I find a 2001 with low mileage,I want to be sure that's a good thing.

If your willing to look I know here in Texas you can snag a hell of a deal on them I got my wife's 2002 LT with around 117,*** miles for $5700 plus TT&L so $6400 out the door cash all options but third row and sun roof and she loves it. All I have had to do is oil changes and rotate the tires and wheels. I'm putting the NNBS front brake calipers on it and it rides like a dream I'm about to put a 2"/3" drop on it for her too.

Thanks for that.I am in NY and there are a lot of tahoes for sale up here, the pricing seems about the same, for a private sale, dealers tack on $2k plus.

I want a 4x4,good to have in the northeast, most Tahoes here are 4x4.How about in Texas? Problem here is the road salt messes with the bodies and chassis/undercarriage.I looked at a 2003 that looked OK,until you looked under the chassis and in the wheel wells and saw the cancer.

I want to look locally, mostly because the trannys on these trucks are hit or miss,I really have to drive it(and get on it)to feel good about it.

I can understand that. I am not a big fan of the 4L60 or 65 trans that's why mine has a 4L80. now with a southern Tahoe or Yukon You should not encounter the Cancer issues.

Yeah,when I get a Tahoe,I'll start a search to have a spare tranny around.I figured I'd find a 4L65 around somewhere.

What did you have to do to get a 4L80 in there?Anything crazy electronically?

I may be down south in a month or so,yes NO rust. But man, those vehicles rack up some serious mileage down there.Just about everything 200K plus.

Some people here use Tahoes as a 2nd vehicle, hoping to find an original owner selling it to make room, with about 100k miles.
