Looking to get a SSV

I have a 2008 Tahoe SSV with 5.3 and 4 spd transmission. I have used it to tow my 2000 SVT Lightning and 91 Mustang GT race car. The rear of the Tahoe wasn't that bad with the Lightning on it. That truck weights in at 4800 lbs add the trailer which I think is another 1500. So that is 6300 lbs. Except for the lack of power I thought it towed pretty good.

This is with my race car which weights 3300 lbs and 1500 for trailer. So total of 4700

Thanks man. I’ve towed my Camaro behind my 5.3 Rainier in the past and it handled it well. The boat is another beast though.

I have a 2007 LTS that was purchased at Fed auction. It was more of an "administrative" vehicle, so didn't have some of the mods. It is 4wd, 5.3L. I've had it for about 3 years now. I've added a leveling kit to the front and a 1.5" block lift in the rear. I have Firestone Bags in the rear as well. They are great. Towing wise, I'm bias. Right before this vehicle, I had a 2004.5 Dodge Ram Dually with a cummins. That being said, I like the Tahoe. Getting it cheap, I was able to do the suspension work, new pad/carpet, new front seats from a 2014 Denali, Solar, dual batteries (with isolator), ham radio, inverter, ARB Refrigerator, etc... All things I would be hesitant to do with a new vehicle.

I’d never buy anything from the Midwest unless brand new. That’s just me though.

As said, these are not usually from the midwest. There are 3 major SSV dealers, and they are all in the Chicago area.

Mine came from Montana, and went through two other dealers within 5 days of me getting it at Chicago, which makes me think that there is a lot of markup from the initial auction.

And keep in mind a flood vehicle will not show up as one on any reports. These guys are not turning in an insurance claim, it's tax payer money, not theirs. They just throw them up on auction.

Hello all. I am looking to get a 2009+ SSV Tahoe within the next few months. I have read the sticky, read some threads, and still have a few questions.

One thing that concerns me with the SSV Tahoe is that it won't have the air suspension to level the truck back out. This brings me to my first question of adding airbags to the SSV springs, or will it not sag enough to worry about it? The car trailer adds the most tongue weight. A

I was concerned when I went from my old LT with the Auto-Level to the SSV, thinking I would need to add air or springs, but the Nivomats shocks in the SSV did everything I needed. 90% of my use is towing with 600 pounds plus of tongue weight.

I know that nobody it going to believe me but I purchased my 2013 SSV straight from the original department out of Minnesotta and I got it on Ebay! It had 94k on it and I paid ONLY $9115 for it! Over a year and a half later I am still wondering how I got such a nice truck so cheap! This is one of the original auction pictures.

PS: The reason I got it so cheap was they sold it with no reserve and the auction ended on the 4th of July weekend! Bargain of the century for me! It also still had 6 months of the original Factory warranty!

Buying straight from the department is without a doubt the best situation.

In September I bought my 2012 PPV with 130k for $4200 (plus a grand to ship it to MI, but I could have just as easily driven it back)

Yessir. They usually have awful descriptions, but you can email them and ask questions. Also be sure to ask for service records!

I got mine from a ford dealer in Virgina about 2 hours from here. I think I paid a little too much, but still a ton less than a LTZ with 100k on the clock. Mine only had 70k and was front line ready.
