New here, I am looking to purchase a vehicle in the next couple months to a year, I'am specifically looking at the Tahoe or suburban, I'am looking into the police package of either, I don't know why I want one but i do.

I have read countless times that chevy or GM and Dodge are the easiest to go about with this as Ford is pretty strick about them unless their on the used car market.

Has anyone here ever order such a vehicle or happen to purchase one? Also be aware I'am was a Volunteer firefighter gonna be getting back into it. so I'am hoping that gives me a little leeway when it comes to trying to purchase one.

I don't have any experience with the police package but I'm sure someone on here does. My Denali kinda looks like a Cop since it's White/Black! It's for sale too:) Good luck man!

The only real advantage of a PPV or SSV Tahoe or Suburban is stuff associated with electrical components for the extra equipment that police/government agencies use, and you can get a plastic floor liner. Other than that a non-PPV/SSV Tahoe can be purchased with the right RPO codes. Case in point, the calipers, pads, rotors, are pretty much the same, but you would need to get the upgraded brake booster. The PPV/SSV alternator is 160 amp. PPV and SSV Tahoes also have a second battery mounted behind the headlight. I looked into finding parts to add the second battery to my truck. This is where the biggest difference is. The wiring is not available from GM for this because the fuse block under the cowl is different. But I did find a solution. I bought a second battery and mounted it in the factory secondary tray with the mount available from GM. I then went to Advance and bought new battery cables and grounded the battery to the engine and mounted the positive cable to the jump box on the positive side of the primary battery via routing over the top of the radiator. As for suspension, the only difference is shocks. Sway bars are the same on all Tahoes regardless of suspension RPO code and trim level. PPV and SSV rigs do have an upgraded radiator that incorporates an engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, and power steering cooler. You might want to do some research on this if it is important to you to have the engine oil and power steering coolers. As for the transmission cooler, an auxillary cooler is available through GM Accessories for ~$75 plus install.

For more information on PPV and SSV vehicles go to www.gmfleet.com. Search around under the police section of that site and you should be able to find a little bit of technical info there.

Thanks I know about most of the stuff you guys are speaking of. Iam just wondering how I go about purchasing one without being a Government/Fire agency etc.

I know I can get them used But I kinda want new, the only time I'd get a used one is if I knew it was a detective or higher ranking officers vehicle.

I feel the same way with a Crown victoria as well. I have been looking at the better models of the tahoe like the Z71 and LT top of the line models, fully loaded they all seem to have high miledge for the price iam willing to pay.

I have heard countless times Dodge and chevy are two of the easiest to purchase a fleet vehicle, ford can be picky although I love the Crown Vics and Expeditions. I haven't spoken to dodge yet but I will in the near future If I can get my hands on a police package charger.

I recently saw dodge is coming out with a dodge ram police package if iam not mistaken. thanks for all your help guys.
