Ok so i have my spares luckily and i wanna buy another key and fob but of course do not wanna go through the dealer.I figured since i have my extra set i can just buy a blank off of ebay and have it cut at a good locksmith i know, my question is do Tahoe's have chips? Also i have a LT2 with the remote start and ive come across some programing instructions online for the fob but then also came across that i have to go to the dealer because they will use a scan tool?? And one more question when i buy a fob do i need to match anything any number to the new fob or do i just need to confirm it is for a 2009 chevy tahoe?
Thanks any inputs will help.

You can program the key fob to the vehicle without needing a dealer. Actually taking it to the dealer makes it a lot longer and more complicated process. Just use the DIC, scroll through the settings until you find "RELEARN REMOTE KEY" or something like that, and when you get that mode turned on, hold down the lock and unlock buttons until the horn chirps or the car chimes.

It's a very easy process that takes less than 5 minutes.

I just went to the dealer to get a spare key made for my Tahoe and yes, it does have a chip in it and cost $50 bucks. When I bought my truck it also had an extra random FOB in the glovebox that did not belong to the truck. The dealer said I could use it, as long as the FCC number matched the original. Apparently if the FCC number does not work it will not work with your vehicle.
