Personally I would never put shorties on a v8. Its only a few extra bolts to do long tubes.

I would do long tubes but I got to get a high flow y pipe with cats and I unfortunately don't have the cash right now. I'm hoping over this winter I can get the money up.

Do your maintenace and get all your pRoblems fixed.
Mods can come later.

I agree definitely got to get the problems fixed first. But I'm still gonna look into this while waiting. One other thing I know I should have a 3" y pipe but I see some long tube headers say 2 1/2 or different from y pipe. Can different lt headers fit with other y pipes as long as they are ment for long tube headers even if a different brand?

I`ve never been pulled over for loud exhaust in my yukon and i`m way past the age to get nervous around a cop, I don`t let off the throttle around them to try and be quiet.

I`m not sure if this is correct but i have heard that in NY you can`t be issued a ticket for loud exhaust if the cop doesn`t have a decibel meter to measure your exhaust level.

Noise is relative. It needs to be measured before issuing a ticket in the court of law. I have won many audio tickets I know.

Regarding the y pipe. 2 1/2 will yield more torque when flowed to a 3" exhaust. 3" wye to 3" exhaust will yield slightly more hp, but isn't optimal for flow as diameters are the same.

My Tahoe 6.0ho has lpp long tubes and 3" ory. My suburban however with a 383 (6.3l) had 2 1/2 y after the longtubes into 3". It was the best exhaust ever and brutal on torque!! Don't get me wrong the Tahoe will burn anything besides it.

Made way more torque than a shorty could ever do... Don't get caught up in the shorty crap. Engine bay noise will be louder slightly in the cab cause headers are not as thick as cast manifolds. If you are concerned about inside cab noise. Stick with manifolds.

Wow that's a good idea actually. What would happen to 02 sensors though? If I got an off road y pipe with no cats I couldn't screw the 02 sensors into pipe then they may fail me for that right? If there are y pipes I can install fake cats on with 02 sensor spots then I would love to do this.

Get bungs welded in for them. Install the rear sensors as well. When tuned they will ignore the rear sensors anyway.

You can chop up and modify a purchased y pipe or build your own with a good shop. Go from 3" header collectors to 2 1/2 y pipe that flows to 3" exhaust.

With the laws in ny. The shops might not even touch anything before the muffler. Meaning they may not even touch a y pipe Or headers. Find a good shop and let us know.

What's your opinion on stock cat flow on a 2003 5.3l? Is it worth getting some high flow cats? I mainly want them for sound

high flow cats will help.

I really want the super 10 series sound. Although I love the corsa sport wot sound I like how the super 10 or 40 sounds at idle and normal driving as well as wot. II can't find any cat back kits that are SS. how much would an exhaust shops charge to put in SS custom bent tubing for dual exit if I supplied the muffler? Going rates around here range from 95-150 an hour. Also what about gibson.? I heard them on YouTube and I like the dual sport side swept sound and its stainless steel and under 600 dollars. Any problems with Gibson? I'm planning on buying some high flow cats to have installed as well.

I researched the gibson catback and if i remember correctly reviews of it all said it was a pretty quiet muffler. The only problem i had with my flowmaster catback other than it rusting away was that it`s tough to get the tails to hang evenly and it drove me crazy. They also hung low and i wasn`t a fan of that either. I can`t say for sure other brands will have the same issues.

The big reason i had one custom built is that it`s all welded and as you saw in the picture i posted the tails are even and tight to the body. And above all stainless.

If you decide to go the custom route and you can`t find a shop up by you that can do it you`re only around 60 miles from the place i got mine done.
