My 2006 Suburban never did have sufficient oil pressure to suit me. It got to where the most i could get under acceleration was around 40. Also, it began to drop to 0 at a light every so often. Put it in park and rev the engine to oil pressure up. Around town i never got any lifter noise but on the interstate at 2k rpm and above..the clicking would start. It was time to bite the bullet with a new oil pump.
I went with a Melling 295HV pump. It is reported to have 18% more volume than stock. It comes with high pressure spring installed and lower pressure spring in the box. I left the high pressure spring in. Also dropped the pan and replaced the pick-up tube while I was at it. Trust me, it is much easier than monkeying around with the one bolt on the pick-tube with the pan in place. new oil pan gasket and the proper torque and no leaks. BTW, I didnt need to replace pick-up tube. I just wanted too. The original was super clean.
Now it idles at 40-50psi and cruises at 60-70 on the highway! No more lifter noise either!!
