The day I bought my Tahoe I noticed the lifter was starting to tick, so the next morning I get in it and no oil pressure and ticking was louder. If I would rev it up a little the gauge would go up. So the vehicle ran fine, it’s just first starting it the low oil pressure alarm goes off and ticking is loud. So
I decided to put an new oil sending unit in, started it up and same damn thing. So I just drove it anyway. After a few months (10) I had enough and I started watching on YouTube, many helpful videos on this problem. It was the O-ring for the oil pickup tube. Mechanic swore that it sounded like it was the oil pump and a $2.42 rubber o-ring was not a fix. Next day I pick it up he said I was right, my O-ring was half gone! My Tahoe starts up fine, it is nice and smooth with absolutely no engine noise whatsoever! I can honestly Not feel it running at a stoplight. Anyone has the same issue 9 times out of 10 it is the O-ring.

should have made a bet could have bet him double or nothing on that oring lol

mostly likely it had a High OCI clean oil will not damage seals dirty oil will

I know there will be a lot of people who will deny this

think of this as sand blasting with microscopic carbon partials at 50PSI

if you want the engine and transmission to last 200-300k or more miles fluid changes are a must...

the manufacture suggested Fluid changes are a lie so it can last 100k then you "replace" with a new one. that is how they keep a revolving door for a "new one"..

Got any links for DIY videos on replacing that o-ring?

Finding and fixing something like that makes you feel great. Good job of sticking with it. Now we all know of the issue and fix. Thanks for posting.

I'm a believer now after the plastic timing chain guide disintegrated in my gently driven 6.2 with only 140K. The pulverized plastic then clogged a lifter and bent a push rod. I had followed the oil life indicator and changed at around 15% with Mobil 1.
I now change every 6k miles. I can't think of any other reason why the chain guide would fail other than dirty oil.

My engine has over 250,000 miles now it is as smooth as a 50,000 mile one. I use Mobil 1 synthetic and Lucas oil stabilizer with a Wix filter. Gonna see how many miles I can get out of this. My wife and I are planning on driving from Oklahoma to the east coast in it.
