I have a 2005 Yukon XL with a 5.3 and 197K miles. I am using Mobil 1 and change the oil every 5K miles. Over the last 3-5 miles i have noticed the the oil pressure drops to almost nothing when sitting at a stop light or just an extended idle. This has become bad enough that the oil pressure warning chime has come on once or twice. The oil level is in the iddle of the normal range on the dipstick. When the RPMs come up the pressure returns to normal. I am assuming that this is the oil pump staring to go bad, am I wrong on this?

Alot of guys who have this issue have replaced the O ring in the oil pump pick up, and their pressure has returned to normal. Not saying that's your issue, but something to look into.

Well Rick, I reckon you have a bad o-ring in the pick up tube and or a worn out oil pump.

Thanks Everyone! Any feedback on the Melling High Volume Oil Pump from RockAuto? I figured I might as well get the O ring and the pump just in case.
