Low Priced 07 Yukon - Considering Buying

Evening All.

New to forums, been around the car game for years and and am a DIY owner / research before I buy type of fella. Nice community here, very informative.

I stumbled across a 2007 Yukon, SLT for sale at a dealer. One owner truck, clear title, with 140K miles, limited service record per carfax and by calling the dealer, who was kindly enough to run the VIN on history of work. 30k service done , serviced at 35k , 43k drive concern reported, and 79k transmission repair or service.

Car is about 4 hours away so I haven't personally inspected. It looks nice, white exterior, black leather interior. No 3rd row seats, no nav, not the longer SUV like the XLs. 5.3L, you guys & gals know the rest. Exterior is average as it does have marks on the front bumper (more than a usual 2007).

I have never purchased a car with this high of miles... Are you seeing long-term life's with proper maintenance on these trucks? I have read about lifter issues, crack dashes. Any else I should look out for? I keep seeing the talks of air ride suspension, how would I know if it has that option?

Here's the kicker... I can purchase the car for under 10K... What's your opinion of fair value? Would 8.5K be a steal?

It can be a good vehicle and that is a decent price. Keep in mind that at that mileage there will indeed be some common issues to address. o2 sensors could go at any moment, front hub bearings, ABS sensors, etc. If you can, get in contact with an independent mechanic at a shop local to the dealer that has it and pay them to go check it out good for you. Checking the fluids, brakes, etc. This will tell you about immediate attention it may need. If I had to bet, I would say that right off the bat the oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, gear lube in the differentials would all need changed and depending on the condition, the brakes may need work. Other than that they can indeed be great vehicles that last a good long time.

My 2001 tahoe is on its last legs. I want a truck the wife wants another tahoe. I have heard of engine problems with the 07 and 08s. Oil consumption. I see alot of 07s for sale. they seem to be in the price we can afford. We have been spoiled with the 01, 266k no problems. Any suggestions on what to look for?

I have an 07, & have had it for a little over two years. I bought it with 78k on it & am now about 110k. I have changed ALL fluids at 100k, u joints on driveshaft, brakes, tires, driver side valve cover (eliminating oil consumption), replaced oil cooler lines, replaced worn out stock autoride shocks with Arnott's, changed the air ride compressor & it's been to the dealer to replace a transfer case control module (extended warranty). Most all of that was maintianance.

If the vehicle has 120-140 I would anticipate/hope some of those things would've been done.

I have also put a k&n cold air intake & recently done a Blackbear tune. I really like my yukon except for all the modules/computers. I do have a very small bit of rust on the RR passenger door due to a clogged drainage hole...

I'd definitely agree to have someone qualified inspect it & listen to it start/run before making an offer. Pricing seems to be a bit different regionally, but if it's below retail on kbb you're in the right direction. Look at all doors under the rubber seals and the front of the hood for rust. Any flaw you find will give you some negotiating power. Check all oil cooler lines & if they're dirty i.e. have oil seepage, have the dealer change them before you buy. Play with every electrical option including heat & air to make sure all buttons are working. Get up to highway speed to make sure all door seals are tight so you don't hear any annoying whistling. Check to see if the battery was replaced or original too...
