I have am the orginal owner of a stock 02 Z71 Tahoe with 224K miles and I have never done any work to the front end and it is time. Has anyone replaced lower control arms and have any recommendations for brands? I was thinking of going with the Mevotechs, but all the information on the web I can find specifies the Mevotechs with only the 4.8L. I have the 5.3L. I am sure they are the same, but just wanted to check.

Thanks.

I went with the Autozone ones only because it was the only thing open at the time that had something in stock. They were cheap and have been great ever since. plus they have a lifetime warranty

Thanks. I went with the Mevotech. Should everything together tomorrow and I will see how it works out. I ended up replacing the front upper and lower control arms, tie rods, idler arm, centerlink, sway bar bushings and links, hub assembly, billstein shocks, and the bushings for the rear control arms. I do alot of heavy towing with this vehicle and just decided to do it all. Once I actually started to remove everything I realized they were in worse shape than I thought, but what do you expect with a 10 year vehicle with 224K miles.

Wow went all out huh? Yeah that's actually really good for them to last that long. Mine has 98000 miles and I already had to replace tie rods, idler and pitman arms..damn rims lol She should ride as smooth as butter afterwards though

In the interest of saving me pricing all this out and adding it up, any chance you'd be willing to share a ballpark figure as to what this whole deal cost you? If not the same boat, I'm in a fairly similar boat ... '01 and non-z71, but same mileage and same usage.

Also, did you do any/all of the work yourself? And if so, was straightforward requiring the normal diy garage tools, or advanced and requiring special tools?

Thanks ...

It's pretty easy. Like you said, remove wheel, unbolt shocks, unbolt spindle. I like to remove the torsion bar keys to make sure there's no spring tension but I suppose you don't have to. then just unbolt the arm and slide the torsion bar out. Do the reverse to install.
