Hey guys please don't knock me I'm a noob but I've been looking at Texas speeds 454 lsx. Thinking of doing 6.0l heads intake, ls6 cam, and factory 5.3 timing chain assembly and cover. I'm just trying to do a killer tow rig with a bad a** factor. Thoughts, comments, questions?

Talk to my Husband. I knoe he has a 6.0 stroked and has a 4l80 that shifts really hard.

If you want a killer tow rig buy a diesel. also the ls6 cam might not be the best for towing. you want torque more than anything else. a good set of long tube headers, stick with the truck intake and look for a better choice in the cam. the best way for you to get the tq needed is with displacement, stroke out your 6.0, keep your compression at sane level and a good set of heads. most of your towing is going to from a idle to 4500rpm tops. you will find that between 2000-3000 is where you will be most of the time. sure you can go ahead and build that 500hp engine but you will find that well thought engine that gets you 400-450ft lbs will last a bunch more miles.

Yep he is right! High horse power engine is not good for towing. High tourqe is though.

You know I was thinking LS6 cam just because I have one around and I love my Tahoe lol. I don't tow non-stop but I do tow a medium sized camper, a boat during the summer, and a enclosed car hauler I tow might I say not enough. But my Tahoe is my daily driver. The 454 was just a cool idea that is all bolt up and tune. I have worked with Texas speed quite a bit and stand behind their products. My biggest deal is the loss of economy with a stroker 6.0. The LSX I should remain around 15 mpg being lifted.

Sorry but aslso not building for high horse. Staying low compression and the smaller heads will keep tourqe in low end.

Wouldn't a supercharger be a cheaper more viable option?

A mild 454 build with say 9.5-10 to 1 compression. what would be nice is a 8.5-9 to 1 with a nice single turbo, you get your nice Daily Driver with a nice smooth idle plus you would have something around 400-450 ft lbs of TQ. my 97 Dodge 3500 2wd with the cummins was rated at 215hp and 440 ft lbs of TQ and it would tow anything I put behind with ease. now my 04.5 Dodge 3500 2wd dynoed at 368hp and 800 ft lbs of tq and I never had to turn it up to that to tow all day at 26k lbs Gross. The LSX block is a great starting point. Be smart and plan your build and it could be the last eng you build for your Tahoe.

Instant tq is great for drag racing but not for towing, parts will break faster with a blower and the blower takes hp to turn it. Like I said, a well thought out plan will give him what he wants. If I had the time and money I would have a Cummins and a 6spd Allison in my Yukon and have the best of both worlds. 20+ mpg on the highway and all the towing power anyone could ever want. Plus it would go for 300k miles before I ever had to replace anything. you just have to be realistic with your goals.
