Mass Air Flow Sensor 02 Tahoe

My check engine light goes on and off, on about half the time. I was told by the shop it might be the mass air flow sensor but it would cost money for them to be sure. the reader said too lean or too rich. Has any one else had this problem?

My 04 had the same problem. AutoZone or somewhere similar can run the code and tell you a few things it could be. Mine was the MAF sensor, got a can of CRC mass air flow cleaner, and cleaned it with it. Light hasn't come back on since.

Get a free scan done. If it's the MAF than invest in a can of MAF cleaner & spray down the wires inside. Don't touch them but do spray them. Over time dirt, oil, & debris that collects on them could lead to bad airflow reads. Clean it before you ever consider replacing it.

Either way, you gotta pull the codes first...that'll point you in the right direction.

ok thanks guys ill go pick up a can of cleaner. I put a K&N intake system on it but the light was coming on and off before that. I should have cleaned the MAFS as I was putting on the new intake haha.

Also don't use compressed air on any of the MAF, let it air dry!!
