Helllo,
I just picked up my 98 4x4 2 door on sat. Man is she clean and runs great. (Drove 200 miles home No Problems)
The brakes are soft and I am going to dive into them next weekend. The guy I bought her from had just did front pads and new rotors. (Had Lifetime warranty at autozone from another truck...0 cost)

I am think the master cylinder is bad because there is black stuff floating around.

So here is my plan for next weekend. (Not really wanting to hydro boost might add rear disc in the future)

Flush the whole system
I ordered Russell Stainless Steel Lines part #622400 for new lines.
Inspect all corners and make adjustments and replace what is need.
Replace the master cylinder with a NBS (New body Style) master cylinder.???

Does anybody know what part number/ year model I should tell the Napa guy for the NBS that will fit on a 98.??? And from what I have read I will need to either flange one of the lines or adapt. Any insight on this would be great.

Also looking for the part number to order some Ranchos 5000 and there site does not pull up the 2 door as an option. Any body know the part number for a standard height 98 2door?

Congrats on your new hoe. Post a photograph when you can. We've already seen under her dress let's see what the rest of your hoe looks like.

I'm going to dig into this very project tomorrow if I can get up in time. If not probably Tues. Here's my parts list if it helps.
BTW I'm partial to Bilstein shocks.

Front--
Powerslot rotors
Hawk pads
Raybestos calipers #FRC4417 & FRC4418

Rear--
Raybestos
Brake Drum #2586R
Brake Shoes #675PG
Wheel Cylinders #WC370189

Master Cylinder
Raybestos #MC390259

Russell SS lines

Rotors, pads and lines I got from Summit. The rest I got from RockAuto.

Oh yea, putting new polyurethane bushings in the springs too.

Almost forgot, also putting on Air Lift bags. But not until later this week.

These trucks are notorious for the soft pedal.... but chances are its the master cylinder. I've seen a lot of them leak. Gm really didn't do their homework when it came to the braking system on these trucks... correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the nbs Tahoes have hydro boost.

Do you plan on lifting the vehicle? FYI ranchos are really a firm ride, like your riding on big rims! I have 22"s, lowered with rancho's, my ride was shot before the rancho's. I just didn't like bottoming out anymore.

FYI 5000's are stock height, if your going to raise it, put shocks on hold.

I will get part numbers for you tomorrow at work.

Plan on installing them yourself? Quite simple but FYI, Sears does installs for free! :)

Thanks oldsalt ,,let us know what you find out about the nbs master. Also I guess I should just spend the extra and buy the bilsteins. Everybody really talks high of them. Anybody got the part number. I am going to keep her at stock height and make her fast and lean but able to handle the dirt roads when needed. Here are some pics from the old owner and dont really do it justice.(Havent been home during daylight hours to get new pics) But I think the newer style rims look great and are not to bling bling. Also the old owner gave me the carfax and it was only in IOWA for 2 years and all service has been done :party33:

Oh ,,also I do not like letting other people work on my trucks. They always seem to half ass things and only fix what they all told to fix.

Boy that's a nice lookin' machine Jason. If it was white I'd make you an offer.

Oh, one thing, have a look at the fitting that goes into the intake manifold where the heater hose goes into. If it is the cheap gray pot metal get rid of it and put in a new steel one. The gray one will rot and break away. I lost an engine that way.

Wonder if you could do me a favor; can you measure from the ground to the center of the wheel well on the front and rear and let me know how far it is? My car hasn't been looking right lately and I don't know if it is because of the crap I have in it or my springs are sagging. Since yours is stock and I presume empty it will give me a good idea. Thanks

Rear- 41 inches ground to center of the inner wheel well, Front-39 inches ground to center of the inner wheel well. Mine might be a light taller than stock because of the Good Year Wrangler tires.
