I went to the dealer today to get a price on the 09+ LTZ chrome moldings. Needless to say, I was scared off by the expensive price, even with my dad's 30% discount. It turned out to be more than the ground effects kit!

So, I was thinking. What if I bought a kit off eBay and taped/masked off about an inch (or however big the chrome is on the OEM moldings), and painted the rest of the pieces black to match the truck? Here is a picture of the moldings I would buy:

Your thoughts? Thanks :D

Im confused on what you're asking? You want chrome door moldings and then tape off a section and paint it black for a two toned look? Anyone else confused or is it just me?? :emotions122:

No. I'd buy those pieces in the picture above, then tape off like an inch all the way across the chrome molding cover as to paint the rest. Then when they're installed, you can't really tell the black part is there because it matches the truck. You only see the inch of chrome that wasn't painted, and it sort of looks like the 2009+ Tahoes.

I know, contain your admiration on my amazing Photoshop skills but here's my best mockup. Just go along please :)

I understand now. haha sorry! Thats a good idea. I think it would work. Just make sure you sand the crap out of the spot you're painting. Sounds like a lot cheaper than buying from the STEALership. Its worth a shot!

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for. :D

It basically just goes from being a full chrome molding cover, to a 90% black one with a chrome strip on the top that resembles the 09 style.

Sounds easier to lose the moldings all together.
:hands:

Well, I'm just not a fan of that look. It looks good on some, but it just doesn't appeal to me I guess. Thanks for the suggestion though!

But in literal terms, it might be easier for me to do this because I can avoid paint and labor charges. My dad has owned a body shop for 30+ years and always keeps my GM black color in stock. He's been a big help for a lot of my mods. :)

Ya i'm not a huge fan of removing the door moldings either. I think it makes the doors look too large and bland. The moldings add character to the doors. :imo:

The moldings do make the door look alot less flat, without them the doors in these Newer Tahoes/Yukons looks kind of like a girl with big **** and no nipples haha.
I had to leave my window deflctors in because of this, so I would still have a debadged look with some definition.
I like your idea Zach, I say try it.
