Alright here is my on going problem with my Tahoe.

It's a 2000 nbs tahoe 5.3l V8 with 115K on it.
For about a year now I've had that high pitch ringing sound telling me the fuel pump is going to go bad soon. The service light comes on intermittently and the code P1416 or P1416 (pd) comes up. Today when I started the car it turned over... idled rough for a second then shut off. I turned it on again and it started right up.. I revved the engine up a little to see if it would do it again and it did not. Every once in awhile when I turn the engine over it seems like I don't hold the key forward long enough because it'll almost start then squeal and then I have to restart it.. holding the ignition over longer. If anybody has any help or ideas on what's going on please help me!! I am driving down 99 this weekend and don't want my Tahoe to break down. Oh and this afternoon I decided to clean my K and N drop in filter cuz it's been awhile.. I did this to see if it would help solve anything. Please let me know your thoughts!! Thank you!!!!

Hey man, are you sure it is code P1416?!?! According to Mitchell, that code has to do with the AIR System Bank 2, and that was only on the 4.3L, 5.7L and 7.4L on certain applications, but not in the newer 5.3L engine, either its a wrong code or you have a different engine. Please verify so that I can get you the right info to help you out!

Thanks!

Please give us the appropriate specs of the truck, but from what i read. Sounds like it could be a bad pump. Or you ran some bad gas through. Bad gas and bad pump can make a truck idle super rough.

Especially if its turning over hard. And you have to hold the key. Bad pump sounds like the culprit. When starting your truck just click the key over to Acc. You should hear the pump whine, then shut off after a few seconds. Then try starting it see how that goes. If its still tough then replace the pump.

I wouldnt suggest doing a long trip like that.....Almost positive that pump will shit the bed. Good Luck

BTW, Open your hood and listen for any air leaks. You say you messed with the air filter, etc. Good chance you didnt tighten something enough.

alright yah Ill definitly check those things out. I tightened down all the air filter stuff today and it was good. I'm positive I have a 5.3L V8 and the code was a P1416, P1416(pd) that came up. So that's weird to here. Thank you for all your help! I"m really thinking it is the fuel pump because that whining sound keeps coming up
