Metal Plate Under Steering Column

I installed an alarm on my 05 Yukon Denali last night and when I was finished up I didn't have enough room to reinstall the metal plate that bolts up under the steering column. Is there any reason why I would have any problems if I just left this off? It seems that everything is fine without it but I just want to make sure it doesn't have an important reason it is in there that I am missing? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

That plate is there to protect your knees in a wreck. Without the plate in place, your knees will go up into the dash and get cut on whatever metal they end up crashing into. The metal plate is more like a helmet, to cover that area. If your knees hit that metal plate the worse that can happen is the plastic lower dash will crack and you have a busted knee. You can be injured FAR worse without the metal plate in place.

yea, what scott said...definitly try and get that back in there. thats one of those things that if you replace it you'll never need it, but if you leave it out...

I'm glad someone brought this up!!!

A bad shop installed my first alarm and left the plate off. Short, short lesson... Never get your work done by amateurs lol
