I can get 17 mpg, if my truck is sitting on a flat bead, being towed down the road.

My thought is that you cannot make a significant increase in your 17 mpg with that truck, other than changing your driving habits.

You can call and discuss this topic with @BlackBearPerf to see if an increased mpg tune would significantly increase your mileage, but I doubt it.

I get between 15 and 17 city with a Range device that keeps the truck from ever going into v4 mode, keeping my v8 a v8. Range also offers a gas mileage device, but I have no experience with that. A tune will certainly help, but keep in mind, unless you're close with your dealership, GM has the right and very often will void your warranty due to a tune. That is why I plug and play. Easy on, easy off and no one is the wiser

Its a good impulse to want to achieve a better mpg in a large vehicle like these. I do have to say that the fuel economy in these vehicles is spectacular. Even the Tiny Telluride and Puny Palisade only get 16 and 17 city and 24 on the highway so really how bad do we have it. Look at the crying people are doing with the Atlas, fuel economy is not what they were expecting because they thought a v6 should be better than a v8 and are they ever wrong. Ford trys to tell folks that the eco boost gets better mileage than the GM triplets but in real life not so much. The new gen GM trucks are actually worse in fuel economy than the previous gen and have smaller gas tanks to boot. Only the diesel will get better and its really not much better than the previous gen. It may go further on a tank but the long term reliablility of the emissions and the unfamiliarity of the engine to most mechanics may make it a poor choice in the long run.

I am duly impressed with the mileage of our new 18. I am driving cross country at about 75-80MPH and averaging just 20MPG that includes going over the Smokeys and in Summit County Colorado where I am now.

You are correct there is not necessarily a tune for better gas mileage though we may see some improvement, the biggest factor is the foot on the pedal.

When you have a vehicle the size of what we drive, getting 20+ mpg at 80+ mpg, GM is doing something right. I love when people refer to the Suburban or Tahoe as a gas hog, are they ever out of the loop, i know there are situations when you can be a hog. City driving can put a real dent in mileage and winter driving as well. My own average is 9.4 liters to 100km sometimes less but not by much and sometimes more. I do average 850km to a tank which is over 500miles (17 Suburban). I had a 19 company explorer and it did not even come close to the mileage this gets and nowhere near the inside room. This vehicle had the non turbo 3.5. Appearances can be deceiving.
