Started off with the active "Misfire Cylinder 4", the truck would buck and shudder at highway speeds.

Have since replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spider unit, plugs, wires, distributor (went to all aluminum).

Ran fine for about a week, and now yesterday it started to miss just a bit and very low partial acceleration. This morning it did the same but with an added hollow popping backfire from the exhaust.

At idle, heavier acceleration and cruising speeds, it runs fine.

What do I look at replacing next?

Since you are just throwing parts at it, I suggest the engine. But before that I would probably do some actual troubleshooting rather then replacing stuff.

elsamurai, do you have any trouble codes showing up? They might point you in the right direction. Did your distributor come with a new cam position sensor?

it didn't come with a new position sensor. i'll put that on the list.

i'm going to go have the codes cleared today since i haven't done that yet since replacing the spider. i'll see what pops up fresh tomorrow morning.

Good idea. That should at least get you an idea of what to look for.

dont put it on the list just yet. unless you got a p1345 or other cam code saying something is out of whack with it leave it for now. do a compression check or leakdown check to inspect for a leaking valve. for starters.

had the codes cleared, and later that day came up with P1345. decided to take it to the stealership and just get the ****** over with assuming they could set it straight.

the distributor was off 22*, the rotor was arcing across the mounting screws, and the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors were out of synch.

few hundred bucks later, it ran great. ran great all weekend. still ran great this morning, except that the d@mn check engine light came back on. can't wait to see what it says!

that much off and for that long you may have shorted out the cap or did they replace that too while there. and while some dealers may charge a bit more per hours. most charge the same as franchise shops and are a better choice of service shop to go too. you know that there is gonna be someone like me who is the wizard on this stuff tucked away in some lonely corner of the shop. probably with his own personal fridge and microwave too.
