I recently changed my oil and I noticed that only about 3 quarts of oil came out. I change my oil regularly and am completely confused as to why it is like this. Since I've had my 98 Chevy Tahoe 2dr 4x4 I've always have to add coolant to my reservoir or radiator to keep it full. Not a fast leak or anything like that. My first though was that it was getting into the oil, and the problem would be a head gasket, but the oil isn't milky or lumpy. Hopefully one of you has had the same problem and can help me out.

Thanks,

Will

Have you pressure checked your coolant system? Might not be a bad idea to start there for the coolant, could be something minor.

Its not uncommon for these engines to burn a lot of oil

My 96 5.7L 2WD Yukon burns about 2 quarts every 3 months, I usually have to add oil before the oil change is due

mine have never burned oil. No leaks?

So the truck is drinking oil and antifreeze? Does the exhaust have a color or strange odor?

So it was obvious where it was coming from?

I just know I haven't seen ANY on the ground.

First thing is you have to actually VERIFY for sure that it was full with 5 quarts.

Who changed the oil last?

I saw a tech once fill his own car twice in the dealership I worked at.....his wife left and the poor RX7 was smoking like a wildfire. Same dealer, guy got his Miata back with no oil at all!!
