Hi all,

I recently installed power running boards onto my suburban and found that I'm missing the puddle lamp circuit id 5996. I ended up wiring the lamps into the dome light circuit but I was curious if anyone was able to find a better circuit?

The way it is right now, if I'm driving and turn on the dome light they all turn on. I'm working on adding the mirror puddle lamps as well as the escalade led handles and wouldn't want all of those lamps turning on when I turn on my interior lamps but do want them to turn on when I lock and unlock the car, open the doors.

Any ideas would be very helpful!

Thanks! d2e9bddde56215702fa6b1b14df36224.jpg

I may be able to help you with all of this, but need to verify some things first.

Are the power running boards OEM or aftermarket? If aftermarket, how/where did you tap into the dome light circuit?

I need you to inspect the X185 connector. If you look at an expanded pic of the schematic you posted, right side, highlighted, you see where the 5996 circuit lands in that connector. It then travels down the chassis harness and goes to the steps.

The X185 connector is located just behind the underhood fuse box.

To remove the chassis side of the connector, depress the tab and rotate the white lever up.

You’ll need to look for a terminal landed in position 34 on the body side of the connector.

It’s located here.

Report back with your findings and we’ll go from there.

Thanks cmatt!

I checked X185 and it's missing that pin on both sides. The running boards are oem. I grabbed the dome light circuit from the bcm.

I suspected that would be the case. How did you route the dome lamp circuit you tapped into from the BCM to the boards?

The puddle lamp circuit also originates at the BCM (X7, pin 8). See if you have anything landed in that location.

You’ve got a couple options. I tapped into the puddle lamp circuit in the wire runway at the door sill and followed the OEM path, landing connectors in the X185 connector, etc. The other way would be to take the shortest path of least resistance (i.e. through a drain plug on the floor).

If you also plan to add mirrors with the puddle lamp and the lighted Esky handles, you may want to go ahead and add provisions for those so you’ll only have to do it once.

It would be helpful if you can separate the driver (X500) and passenger (X600) door to body connectors and grab pics of the terminal locations. I need to see what wiring is present.

Thanks!

I've added the esky handles and mirror puddle lamps and landed them at the bcm but wired to the dome lights. I ran the running board leds through the drain plug you mentioned.

The puddle lamp circuit wire is also missing from the Bcm plug you mentioned.

Ill check the sills to see if I can locate the circuit, but I thought that if it didn't come out of the bcm that the circuit wouldn't exist.?

Ive thought about checking if the pin in present on the Bcm and testing it from there.

Thanks!

You are correct. If the puddle lamp circuit isn’t coming out of the BCM connector, I doubt that wire will be in the door sill wire run.

I would do as you suggested and test to see if the pin is present on the BCM side and if it works. Please let me know.

I’m working on adding those circuits to door harnesses for those that would like a plug and play solution much like what @pgamboa does for the trucks on the GM-truck forum.

Good news cmatt! The pin is there on the bcm side and it works as expected. Would you happen to know which pin type I need to buy to add a wire line to it?

Thanks again!

Edit : found the part number on the upfitter guide Gm part 13582297
