You can mask it off like I did or you'll get better results if you take the letters out. But be careful not to break them.

Or Just A Thought Leave The G Red Put The M White And The C Blue Thatd Be Sick

I don't know about the GMC emblem, but the Chevy emblems come apart and are painted on the inside and it shows through the clear plastic. Just take it apart and sand out the old and paint it whatever color you want. I'm actually in the middle of doing this to mine.
