I was driving on a level 'track' of sorts to test the speed of the 1999 GMC Yukon 5.7 v8 2wd. It got to 94MPH and then suddenly all loss of power. I was afraid I'd blown a timing belt, then when I re-applied some gas, it was still started and everything worked as normal. Is this the normal expected results if you're going too fast? Can anyone explain this? Hope I didn't break anything. Seems to run ok. No issues since.

And at what rpm was shutdown? A tuner can get around that. Blackbear is a sponsor here and highly recommended by others.
Look into timing belt for future posts.
I recommend a factory service manual for you.

They had a factory governor on these that was set at 98-mph and would stop injector flow. You probably hit that, plus or minus whatever GM put into their speedometers at the time.

It’s been twenty-plus years since I did it, but it just suddenly (and slightly harshly) backed off as though you had taken your foot off of the gas and done something wrong in the process.

As noted above, a tune could probably remove it.
