Motor oil revelations !

Didn't think I'd change my mine, for years I've used Mobil-1, but I had to revise my thinking when I was discussing motor oil with my friend next door. It's pretty clear that Mobil-1 isn't the do all oil I was lead to believe and used over the years. So I ordered 9 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra synthetic 0W/20 for my L83 and a few PH-63 filters in my 2015 Tahoe. Oil is a strange thing when you think about it, we all have a "favorite" and how that particular brand came to be a Favorite is a odd kind of thing. But sooner or later we decide to find something better. Amsoil is the best by a good lead, That said, it's expensive when buying 9 quarts. I change the oil every 4-5 months or 4.000 miles no matter how many often I used the truck.

If your gonna use Fram, use their Ultra XG series.

I know everyone hates fram filters and say they blow apart etc etc... gotta tell ya ive been using them for 30+ years in all my cars/trucks.... from 70’s chevys to modern day hondas GM trucks and not once.... not 1 single time has a fram oil filter failed on me. That being said I recently chnged over to a K&N filter for all my vehicles because of the convenience of the welded on nut... no other reason but that.

Same experience and reasoning for the K&N as Pete with the added caveat that the K&N really is a superior filter to the competition.

I have always used the OEM filters in all my cars since I started driving. Never had any engine issues. I just do it for peace of mind just in the rare case I have an issue, they can’t blame oil filter as cause. You know quick to blame it something the owner did or didn’t do.

so how is penzoil superior to mobil one? I cant believe im asking because i dont really want to open this can of worms but ill bite.

i dont use k&n because your just paying extra for that nut. i bought a set of the oil filter sockets for my ratchets. i generally dont need them as i put them on by hand and remove them by hand generally. only oils i wont use is store brand anything and quaker state. far as im aware quaker state came a long way since ive had problems with it but they have already tarnished thier reputation with me. outside of that i buy oil appropriate for what im using it in.

i dont use k&n because your just paying extra for that nut.

The ACDelco PF48E filters down to 21 microns, the PF63E to 25-30 microns. The K&N HP-2011 down to 10-12 microns. All at 90%.

The PF48E flows 660 gallons per hour, 792 for the PF63E and 960 for the K&N. It beats WIX and Mobil 1 too.

Does it add up to a hill of beans? Well, I can say that my engine makes more oil pressure with the K&N compared with the PF63E or Mobil M1-212A. So the increased oil pressure AND the nut are what keep me buying them when on sale. They're expensive but that's nothing compared to how much I spend on my women! LOL

i'm 4500 miles into my oil change the oil is still clean :) the issue starts from the first owner some will change it every 7.5 or 10k miles that is if you only want the engine not to last very long...


I change as soon as i see carbon flakes floating in it.... honestly i;m a bit surprised its still clean.. but normally there will be some carbon flakes floating around at 4500 miles.... the engine mostly runs between 1000 and 2000 rpm Never driven higher then that RPM..

go get a Genuine corvette oil pump shell run 40-50PSI idle and 70-75PSI on a cold start :D
