Fixed. The injectors weren't firing but it was not a fuel problem but an electrical one. Replaced distributor rotor - $10 fix!

A distributor pickup coil will keep the injectors from opening and closing and therefore not allow fuel in to the cylinder but not the rotor. You had a no spark to plugs problem if all you replaced was the rotor. Likely had the pin hole at the rotor problem.

But it would run as long as I shot starting fluid into it - so the plugs must have been firing. Right?

I don't know about a pinhole but the contact was shortened and burned at the tip.

Likely should have done the dist cap at the same time if you didn't but I say again, the cap or rotor will not cause the injectors to not open/close. That part can be related to the PCM, module, pickup coil...etc. Just glad it got fixed. The pinhole thing is something they were known for.

The fact that you say it ran if you shot carb cleaner in it also tells me that even though the rotor may have been worn out it was still working with the cap to produce spark to the plugs. I think there was just some steps out of order when you were relaying to us what you were experiencing in the beginning. But I may be wrong and again, if it works, then don't worry about it. Great!
