What a deal. I tried to find a “mechanic’s special” and the money they wanted for all of them would have made it more expensive than buying one that wasn’t broken.
Your problem is very likely lifter failure (the hydraulic lifters don’t fail in the same way the AFM lifters do so it isn’t easy to spot visually). My guess is your compression will be fine. Do a running compression test and I bet you’ll have a result.
