Well for those that care, I went to a local shop today called Xtreme Custom Car Audio. Then we talk about how I should be breaking in my new subs. Well he hops in my truck and he blares it (is this a good idea with an amp thats pushing more rms than these subs combined?)

If that's how they break in new subs, they're foolish and not doing you any favors. Go elsewhere. Or better yet, contact the sub manufacturer and ask them what they recommend for break in procedure.

The day I put em on (I think it was Thursday) I called DC Audio and got a message saying they were gonna be out of the shop until Monday. Just my luck!

But I hear you. I think I am gonna take it somewhere else because I don't trust those guys. It's so hard finding a good car audio shop, and within a reasonable driving distance.

Just got off work and im leaving in 5 hours to get my audio shit finished. ******** im gonna be tired.

Going to a place called CarTunes and they are carpeting my box, tuning my amps, routing my iPod to the my glovebox, and tuning my amps. These guys sound pretty legit too, unlike the last place I went to.

I'm so glad this is finally gonna be complete. I'll take a picture of my box carpeted up when I get home.

Back in the early 80's there was a very high end shop in Birmingham named Birmingham Autosound. They were on Woodward just south of Maple (15 mile rd). They carried the best of everything and that's where I got my start into it all. Manager's name was Brian _________. He left Birmingham and moved on to Car Tunes and was working at the location at 11 mile road and Woodward, in Royal Oak.

No idea if he's still at that location or even with Car Tunes managing another location (Allen Park or ?) but if you ask about him and he IS around, he's the guru to see.

on most subs there isnt a break in period its just a myth play them when you get them and pound..i put 2 18" FI BTLS in my hoe with 2000rms to each and went to town very loud and flexing the shit outta my truck as long as you have it tuned and there is no clipping and clean power to your subs and mids n highs you will be fine....

I actually talked to the maker of DC subs (Rusty) and he says different. This guy is car audio genius too. He says with subs, there's some kind of material on the spiders that breaking them in removes or something like that. I can't remember exactly. He told me you COULD just drop subs in and slam on them but it's better to break them in and he told me 6-8 hours would be a good idea.

that's the way to do it...break in is for optimal SQ and alignments.
