in my 2007 yukon denali i have a strange black plastic piece that looks to be a microphone or sensor of some sort that is screwed onto the bottom of the dash. there are also strange wires tapped driver door fuse block on the upper body harness, in the center of the bottom row on the connector.

i keep thinking it was for maybe some bluetooth thing or trailer brake controller or a uilt in radar detector but im just not sure and not realdy to yank it all out yet. let me know your opininon

i knew it...

but seriously i dont know what this stuff is and ive been having weird baterry problems and about a week ago everything seemed fine, then i touched those things when i was looking at something else and the relay thats tucked up in there wrapped in tape and im thinking that i couldve knocked something together that is shorting somewhere and draining power when the cars off. so i want to solve that issue and rule it out before i go off to buy a new battery.

bugs me that i dont know what that little thing is and what all of this wiring is about under there, i just need to look tomorrow and see how far back i can trace a few of the wires and see what i can find. it looks to be just part of some kind of switching circuit that uses a relay, i.e. something that uses a signal wire from ign or RAP or illumination to swich on a 12v for some accessory, but i dont know what it would have been or if this black thing i have on the botom of my dash is a part of it.

i just want to figure out what it even is to see if it's worth keeping or if i should just rip it all out. everything works fine save for the low battery capacity issue, and mine lasts like 10 minutes with the radio on and car off until the engine wont start... low capacity. in all likelyhood the 3-4 yr old battery is just on it's last leg and not holding adequate charge, and in that case i will replace it with an yellow top... and i really want that battery so i can cover it in a sweet billet case:)

probably a small hard drive. when you get your truck scanned it should tell you where your hard drive(s) are located

SW CT,
Take it back to the dealer, it is some sort of starter kill security device. That visible black box more than likely has some sort of keyfob to activate/deactivate it, and the relay that it is connected to and is taped to the main harness interupts the starter wire.
