Yes, this comes fro GM offering the Old Body Style in some trucks while offering the New Body Style at the same time. GM referred to them as Classic, but the nick names OBS and NBS just stuck.
GM is not the only one, I rented a Ram recently that was a 2021, but the previous generation body style. They have all the tooling so they can keep selling them for less money, but profits are still good due to them being paid for with prior years.
Just wait, 2021-2022 may be the same thing according to the news.

When Internet forums became popular (late 90s-early 2000s), the then-new body style Tahoes were the 2000 models and the name just sort of stuck. Before that, if you said you had a Tahoe everyone knew what you meant as there was only one model around (95-99).

Now it just makes us older folks feel older.
