Replacement remote fob & ignition key arrived in the mail today. Went out and performed the remote relearn on the new fob 1st, then the original. They both function properly so we loaded up & drove to Home Depot real quick while I was on a roll. Took the old, single, properly-worn ignition key along with the new factory blank into the store & came out 5-min later with 2 ignition keys & a "no promises or guarantees" statement from the tech. Stuck the new key in, gave it a little jiggle and so it tumbled over & cranked right on up. Very successful order of events.

Sure is nice when things work out plus don't cost a fortune, huh?

"Cheap & easy," as they say. It's still kind of a big deal to have a 2nd set of working keys, espc around here.

I would never go without. When I bought my Denali it just had 2 keys, no fobs. I didn't even know it had the option until I found this site and then decoded my RPO's. It was kind of cool to order 2 fobs for around $20 and program them myself.

You can just go to a locksmith and have one made, no need to order a blank key online. His came with his fob, that's why he got it online.

Very curious, you got me thinking (I smell something burning…). When I bought my ’04 Tahoe early last year it came with only one remote FOB and one key. I ordered a couple of FOBs online and had a couple more keys cut; mine are not chip keys. (Number on the factory FOB was LHJO11; fourth character on mine is not a zero.)

However, when programming the remotes I could not get the factory one to program, even though I was programming them at the same time. Since I had two new ones, I programmed those and moved on. Now the factory FOB sits unusable.

I know that I tried to program the factory one first; now I’m wondering if I had tried to program one of the new ones first, then the factory one, maybe that would have worked. I’ll have to try that one of these days.

The truck knows which FOB is being used and the DIC displays “Driver 1” or “Driver 2”, depending on which one I use. That can make a difference if one uses the memory functions for seat, mirror, and pedal positions, and factory radio presets. I turned the memory function off since I'm usually the only driver and the positions didn't ever seem to be what I had set in the memory.

I always wondered about how that worked since I know our trucks have the capability for key one and key two. Lol. Will have to pull out my manual and see how it was to program that way.

The factory FOBs have a 1 or 2 molded into the back side of the case.
