My Tahoe came with only one of these. They didn't tell me until after all of the pre-purchase stuff, which only needed one, was over and they said here's the key to your Tahoe. Huh? Only one? So I didn't have any leverage on them. Oh well.

On eBay I see these for anything from $20 to $120.

Are the cheap ones made in the country which gave us the virus? Are all of those on eBay from China? Is one that I buy at the GM parts counter going to be from China?

Is there an online GM parts source that gives us a friendly discount?

Since I only have one, according to my manual, I will have to wipe it clean and reprogram/learn all of them.

Is there anything that I should do to reduce the likelihood of having the process crash in the middle of the thirty minute or so process?

Should I have my battery charger on the battery to ensure it doesn't drop off line in the middle of the reprogramming? Don't ask me why I ask. :emotions34:

Are most locksmith's going to be able to cut the groove in the metal key for getting into the car when the battery in the fob is getting weak?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I got 2 remotes from Car and Truck remotes. 866 690 4308. They are nice to deal with. Had the dealer program [for peace of mind] as did not want to have issues on a long trip in the middle of nowhere.

Out of curiosity did you buy your Tahoe from a Chevrolet-GMC dealer?

Thank you for your response, Gary. i bought it from a used truck dealer here in San Antonio. Located it through Autotrader.

Did your GM dealer get the internal metal key cut for your Tahoe?

I do not have a metal key.

I have bought vehicles in the past with the help of Autotrader. They always have a lot of nice vehicles listed.
