Hello All,

New member here. Is it a good idea to get a 2002 Yukon with 155k miles for $7000 ? No one in my family has an American SUV and all of them look at me like I am crazy to buy one with 150k + miles.

I do like the Tahoe/Yukon styling and want to be sure if I am doing the right thing. How is the reliability on these trucks and at worst at this mileage how much should i set aside for potential repairs ?

Appreciate it...

I have a 2004 Yukon with 202k. Minor repairs (water pump around 170k, alternator around 150k, rear wiper motor around 190k) and normal consumables (brakes, tires). I change tranny fluid every 30k, and oil changes at 6.5k. very reliable, very comfortable. average around 15-16 mpg, but with the 3rd row, you can fit a lot of people. I can afford a new vehicle, but I really like mine with no car note. It doesn't get much easier to work on (these forums are great if minor electrical or engine issues pop up).

Well said. I have a '05 with 133k on it (I purchased it new and was able to pay it off within 2 years) and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. It's been a great vehicle. I just need new floormats and a new driver seat cushion and cover, and it'll look (and run) brand new.

I know people like to hate on GM for various reasons, but these trucks were really designed well.

I bought my 02 with 151k for $3000, it needed a transmission that set me back another $1500.

The guy that bought my old 2001 tahoe LT gave me $5500 @ 211,000 when the truck was 7 years old.
I bought the truck with 70,000 miles on it in 2005. New Transmission at 140k miles, rear main seal & fuel pump after that before I sold it to him. It was always garage kept/serviced regularly, and I still see it from time to time, and the engine is still running strong. I think it's pushing 300,000 miles.

So to reiterate what every one else is saying, buying a high mileage truck isn't a bad thing, as long as the vehicle has been well cared for and not beaten to hell and back.
