I currently have my upper and lower control arms at a shop trying to get the bushings pressed out and new bushings installed. FYI - I have a 99 Denali, pulling out the OEM bushings & Ball Joints and installing poly bushings (Energy Suspension) and Moog ball joints.

The shop owner just called and told me that they can't press out the OEM bushings without destroying the sleeves. He is trying to tell me that I need to get new sleeves for the upper and lower control arms before I can have my new ones pressed in.

From what I have read, you should be able to unbend the crimps in the sleeves press out the old bushings, install the new ones then re-crimp the sleeves. Is this correct? Should I pick up my control arms and take them to another shop that might know more about pressing out these bushings?

He hasn't touched them yet. When he told me they would be destroyed and I would have to purchase new sleeves, I told him to hold off and I would get back to him.

I called a different shop, and they said that they put the control arms in on oven and "bake" the rubber until it's gone, then they install the new bushings with the same sleeves. The other shop told me that if the sleeves are in fact damaged when they receive the control arms, then I would need to purchase new sleeves; but I figured that anyways.

It sounds like I will be picking my control arms up in the morning and bringing them to the other shop to have them baked out and the poly ones installed.

Go over with a propane torch and do it yourself. LOL

There is no pressing in of the new polys, lube them good and they should slide in ...
