Hi All:

New to the tahoe forum. Surprised my wife with a 2017 Tahoe last week and she is loving it. She and I would like to upgrade the stock 18" wheels to a 22" wheel. I've picked out a wheel and tire package from OEWheels (http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Multi-Spoke-Escalade_9) but after doing some research I'm not sure that the tire that comes with it (Bridgestone Dueler Alenza HL) is the right tire for us. I called OEWheels and they were extremely helpful and willing to offer a different set of tires. The problem is I can't decide on one. Here is a little bit about our lifestyle:

  • Live 20 miles south of Boston, MA. We get a decent amount of snow but nothing like we used to when we lived in Burlington, VT
  • In the summers we take our SUV out on to Duxbury beach (drive on beach) pretty much 3-4 times per week. Need the ability to drive on soft sand which wasn't too much of a problem for our old Acadia with Michelin Defender LTX tires but we did get stuck occasionally. I'd chalk it up to the lack of power out of the Acadia
  • In the winters we do head up north to go skiing but not as frequently as we used to. My son just started hockey so I have a feeling we'll be traveling for that a lot.
  • We do a ton of highway driving during the week
  • Don't plan on towing anything
  • Planning on keeping these new wheels on the tahoe year round

I've done some research on the Alenza and it sounds that at about 30k miles the tires become unstable in wet conditions. Additionally it sounds like they aren't great in the snow despite the tire rack numeric ratings. I've had the Michelin Defender LTX tires before and thought very highly of them but not sure they will look good with the wheels. Any thoughts on how the LTX would look and/or any other tires I should consider? This is the first time I've upgraded wheels on a vehicle.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I've had Dueler Alenzas on several cars over 10 years! Denali XL and Toyo Highlander. I got good mileage out of them in all conditions. I live in the middle of the Rocky Mountains at a ski resort. I keep them balanced , rotated and properly inflated. Nothing wrong with that tire at all. I drive in deep snow, spring slush and torrential downpours on mountain roads and interstate. The factory version on new GM's doesn't compare to the Warehouse version as far as longevity but this is a good tire. Are Michelins better? Yes. If you want to pay up, they are worth it but nothing wrong with the Alenzas!

attached pic is from a different member... I just installed a set of defenders in the 20" size and think they look great.
